Waiting

It seems that we have been waiting for our first child for such a long time. After two years of marriage Jason and I were ready to start our family. We were content to let God decide when the time was right. Month after month we waited. Nieces and nephews came, Godchildren came, friends and cousins had babies like it was going out of style- and we kept waiting. Sometimes the waiting has been painful and hard to bear. But every day we've placed our hope and faith in the Lord's hands and continually draw strength from Him.

Now here we are, nearly three years later, and we're still waiting. But now our waiting has a purpose and a plan. About a year ago God planted an idea in both of our hearts- maybe we were supposed to adopt? After a lot of soul searching, prayer, and a few aha moments, we realized that was exactly what God was calling us to do. So we researched, we read, we attended meetings about adoption. Then we found our agency. The name says it all. Our waiting took on another perspective- from that of a child. Our waiting is nothing compared to that of a child waiting for the complete and forever love of a family.

Knowing this sometimes makes it harder because no child should ever have to want for the love of its parents. Our hearts break knowing that there are children all over the world who have no one to call mommy or daddy. But someday, hopefully sooner rather than later, we will change that for at least one child in the world. And somehow God will heal all of our broken hearts by binding us together with His love. For now, we wait with hope and faith for that blessed day to come.
