Naptime

Jason and I are beginning to love naptime! Not only for our own good sleep, but for that of some down time. All you parents out there warned us about how much our lives would change- and we knew it would- but not quite how we imagined! I had no idea how much as a parent you have to be "ON"- there is no time to just be on auto pilot, or vegging in front of the tv. When naptime comes you try to pick up what stuff you can, throw in some laundry, catch up on emails or bills, and try to get some rest for yourself. Thats the thing- it really is exhausting being "ON" all the time. Thank goodness we are slowly adjusting to lack of sleep.

We found out yesterday that our little tot had a slight ear infection in one ear, impetigo under his nose, and in need of 4 vacinations to get caught up with kids here in the USA. He did really well throughout the dr. visit, and most of the wait for the precsriptions to be filled. But when we made the trip to deal with some insurance things, he was starting to get pretty ticked off. Part of it was lack of a full nap, the other part was pain from the vaccinations, and another part was being hungry and stuck in the car seat. Poor chap had a rough afternoon and was nearly inconsolable until we got home.

Zachary is whiny and clingy today- probably a little under the weather yet from the vaccines and ear infection. I strapped him on my hip in the Ergo baby carrier earlier, did my laundry one handed and very slowly as to make it VERY monotonous, and he fell right to sleep. My plan worked! He is now sleeping peacfully in his crib while I catch up on my blog.

Please send up prayers for my blog friends Tara and Becky & families- both are picking up thier boys in Russia this week. The first few days are a HUGE adjustment. As happy as they are to see your dreams come true, its really hard on both parent and child to make the change. Add to that stress by traveling in a foreign country- and you are in need of serious prayers for patience, sleep, peace, wisdom, comfort and guidance in how to get through it all while maintaining sanity. May God bless them and everyone else making the journey soon!

Ohhhh... the inconsolable cry. We went through an hour and a half of that last night at bedtime. Breaks your heart doesn't it? Sounds like you're getting a routine going which is great! I dread the "starting over" part when we get home.
